In 2017, microblading – also known as ‘eyebrow tattooing’, ‘feather touch eyebrows’ and ‘semi-permanent makeup’ – took the world by storm… and 2018 has showed no signs of this latest beauty trend slowing down! It’s likely that you’ve seen it pop up on your Facebook or Instagram newsfeed, or you may even know someone who’s had it done… either way, it’s hard not to be intrigued by the idea of having your eyebrows tattooed.

So – what exactly is microblading, and how does it work?

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup. It involves using a hand held tool – usually containing 6-14 micro needles – which is used to hand draw individual brow hairs onto the skin. Afterwards, a dye is then applied on top of the brow strokes and allowed to absorb into the incisions. The result? Beautiful natural looking, thick, full eyebrows.

Who can have it done?

Well… anyone who wants gorgeous looking brows! Microblading will help benefit anyone who…

  • Have thin, sparse eyebrows
  • Have over-plucked eyebrows
  • Suffer from alopecia
  • Draw on or “fill in” their eyebrows with makeup regularly
  • Want to recreate a better eyebrow shape
  • Active women who may sweat their makeup off
  • Busy women on the go who want to save time with their makeup routine

There’s no skin or hair colour limitations with microblading – there are dozens of colour options to ensure you get the perfect brow colour.

How long do they last?

Typically, microbladed eyebrows will last around 12 – 18 months. Women with fair, lighter hair may find they require a touch up sooner than those with darker hair.

Are the brows shaped/drawn on first with a stencil?

Absolutely not – any highly skilled, certified technician will NOT use a stencil as the basis for your brows. Your brows are measured, created and drawn based on your individual bone structure, eye placement, face shape and other factors – they should look completely natural, not like they belong on someone else’s face!

(We get this question a lot…) Is it painful?

It depends on your pain tolerance, however at worst, the service may feel a little uncomfortable. A lot of people have described it as “light cat scratches on the skin” – however anesthetic is applied beforehand to ensure any uncomfortability is kept to a minimum.

How much does it cost?

For a professional microblading service from a certified technician, prices range anywhere from $200 to $800. Just like any other beauty service though, you may find that there are cheaper options out there – but always be cautious about microblading service advertised extremely cheap. The cheaper it is, the less time they will have budgeted for the service – and having something tattooed on your face isn’t something that should be rushed!

Here at Pearl Hair & Day Spa, our microblading service is usually $310 (this includes a 4-6 week touch up treatment). However, for a limited time only, we are offering a special price of $189! So if you’ve been on the fence about getting your eyebrows microbladed, now is the time to book in and try it out. A common phrase we hear from our clients after their service is “I wish I had done this years ago!”
